About Tetris

Tetris is one of the best-selling and most studied video games ever created, designed by Soviet software engineer Alexey Pajitnov in 1984 and subsequently licensed across every major platform in history. Players rotate and drop seven geometric tetromino pieces into a rectangular well, clearing horizontal lines by filling them completely with no gaps. Clearing multiple lines simultaneously scores exponentially more points; clearing four lines at once — a "Tetris" — is the highest-scoring single move. The game escalates in speed as levels progress, demanding faster and more precise decisions. How to Play on GameNight.pro

Use Arrow keys to move pieces left and right; Up arrow or Z to rotate clockwise; Down arrow to soft-drop (faster fall); Space to hard-drop (instant floor placement). Press C or click the Hold button to store the current piece in the hold queue and swap in the previously held piece instead. The faint ghost piece outline shows exactly where the falling piece will land, so you can plan placements precisely. Complete a horizontal row to clear it — all pieces above shift down. The game ends when pieces stack above the top of the board. Your current score, level, and personal best are displayed in real time.

Strategy & Tips

Five habits that separate high-scoring Tetris play from reactive stacking:

• Keep the stack flat and even: Uneven stacks with tall spikes are extremely difficult to resolve. Prioritise moves that maintain a low, flat overall board height — even if it means a single-line clear instead of holding out for a better piece.
• Save the I-piece for Tetrises: The long bar is the only piece that clears four lines simultaneously. Keep a single-column well open on one side of the board and hold the I-piece until you can drop it in for maximum points.
• Use the hold queue actively: If the current piece creates a bad situation, hold it immediately and deal with the next piece instead. Having a useful piece waiting on standby at all times is a significant strategic advantage.
• Look at the next piece preview: Before placing the current piece, check what is coming next. Place the current piece in a way that also sets up a clean placement for the following piece — this is the foundation of smooth, high-level play.
• Hard-drop with Space: Waiting for pieces to fall naturally is slow and error-prone at high levels. Locking placements with the Space bar keeps you in deliberate control rather than reacting to gravity.
